British Army Invests $86 Million in AI Technology for Enhanced Battlefield Operations

The British Army has signed an £86 million contract for the Dismounted Data System (DDS), which includes various AI-capable equipment such as radios, headsets, display tablets, cables, batteries, pouches, and antennas. This system is designed to deliver both voice and visual data, thereby maximizing effectiveness across diverse battlefield scenarios. The Ministry of Defence (MoD) stated that this technology enables troops to receive precise information about their environment, significantly improving their ability to distinguish between enemies and allies.

Previously trialed in Estonia as part of Project ASGARD, the DDS aims to reduce distractions from battlefield noise and allow soldiers to make faster decisions. The MoD has highlighted that the DDS harnesses artificial intelligence and innovative communication technologies, transforming decision-making processes that once took hours into mere minutes.

ASGARD also incorporates the DART 250 One Way Effector, a jet-powered drone that extends the targeting range for enemy infrastructure.
