PSNI Offers £7,500 Compensation to Staff After Major Data Breach

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) is set to provide £7,500 ($10,279) in compensation to each of its employees affected by a major data breach that occurred in 2023. This breach is considered one of the most significant data security failures in UK history, with personal information of 9,483 officers exposed when a spreadsheet was accidentally published online in response to a Freedom of Information request.

The PSNI has earmarked £119 million ($163 million) for these compensation payments, which are anticipated to start in April.
