Quick Summary
The Securityish Brief
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has filed charges against several companies, including Morocoin Tech Corp., Berge Blockchain Technology Co., Ltd., and Cirkor Inc., along with investment clubs AI Wealth Inc., Lane Wealth Inc., AI Investment Education Foundation (AIIEF) Ltd., and Zenith Asset Tech Foundation. These entities are accused of orchestrating a cryptocurrency scam that defrauded retail investors of more than $14 million.
The scam operated through a multi-step fraud scheme that began with enticing advertisements on social media, leading victims to join group chats where scammers posed as financial professionals. They promised returns based on AI-generated investment tips, ultimately convincing victims to invest in fake cryptocurrency trading platforms.
According to the SEC, the investment clubs operated on messaging apps like WhatsApp, with AI Wealth and Lane Wealth active from January 2024 to June 2024, and AIIEF and Zenith from July 2024 to January 2025. The fraudulent platforms, Morocoin, Berge, and Cirkor, falsely claimed to have government licenses and offered Security Token Offerings (STOs) for fictitious assets.
Investors were misled into believing they were investing in legitimate opportunities, such as the cryptocurrency asset SCT, purportedly issued by SatCommTech, and HMB, claimed to be issued by HumanBlock. Both companies were later identified as non-existent.
When victims attempted to withdraw their funds, they were further defrauded by being asked to pay advance fees. The SEC’s investigation revealed that at least $14 million was misappropriated, with $7.4 million in cryptocurrency and $6.6 million in fiat currency, often funneled through accounts linked to individuals in Southeast Asia.
This case underscores the prevalence of investment scams targeting U.S. retail investors, as highlighted by SEC officials. The defendants face serious legal consequences, including permanent injunctions and civil penalties.
